How to Create a Google App Password for Email Migration

If you currently use Gmail or Google Workspace and we are migrating your email to a new mail service, Google requires an App Password to allow the transfer to take place securely.

This is a normal Google security requirement and does not give ongoing access to your Google account. The App Password is used only to copy your emails during the migration.

Below are the simple steps to create one.

Before You Start

To create an App Password, your Google account must have two step verification enabled.

If you do not already use two step verification, Google will guide you through setting it up before allowing you to continue.

Step 1: Sign in to Your Google Account

Go to: https://myaccount.google.com
Sign in using the Gmail address you want us to migrate

Step 2: Click on the cog on the top row of the Gmail window to open Settings.

Choose Accounts and Import, then click on Other Google Account Settings. This opens in a new tab.
In the new tab, click on Security and Sign-in
2-Step Verification is the first option. Click on this and then make sure it has your mobile number and click the Turn On 2-Step Verification button. It will ask you to enter your Google password again.

Step 3 – Create an App Password:

Go to: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords
In the Create New App Password box type in a name for the new one. We suggest naming it VisionICT. Click on the Create button
Copy the code and send it to us.
Click on Done to finish.

Step 4. Send the App Password to Us

Copy the App Password exactly as shown and send it to us securely.
Once we have this, we can safely migrate your emails without needing your normal Google password.
After the migration is complete, the App Password can be revoked at any time from your Google account.

Important Notes

Do not share your normal Google password
The App Password only allows email access for migration
You remain fully in control of your Google account
You can delete the App Password once the migration has finished
